Clogged Toilets in Dallas & Dallas, TX

Dallas' Favorite Plumbing Professionals

Does it seem like your toilet is perpetually clogged? Have you tried to plunge it, and it still doesn’t seem to work? A clogged toilet can be so frustrating, especially when you try to unclog it yourself and it makes no progress. Unfortunately, this may be a sign of a much larger problem, like a stopped-up sewer. Sometimes a professional plumber is exactly what you need to solve your toilet troubles once and for all.

What Is Clogging Your Toilet?

Other than the obvious reason for a clogged toilet, there may be other reasons you can't get the commode to cooperate:

  • Too much toilet paper was flushed

  • Something unflushable was flushed like an object or toy

  • The drain line is clogged inside or outside (sewer problems, tree roots, etc.)

  • There's a blockage in another water line in the house

  • The septic is slow

  • Low pressure from low-flow or low-flush toilet

  • Broken parts such as the flapper or trap

How to Unclog a Toilet Using a Plunger

We’ve all come face-to-face with a clogged toilet at some point in our lives, and if you have not yet, you will. Before calling a professional plumber, try to unclog the toilet yourself with a plunger. Below is a step-by-step guide to unclogging your toilet using a plunger:

  • Make sure there is standing water in the toilet bowl. If there is not, pour a cup of water in it. You need something to work with! The idea scenario is to have enough water so that you can submerge the head of the plunder. However, enough water to submerge the rim of the plunger will do as well.

  • Lower the plunger into the toilet bowl. Direct the plunger so the head is covering the drain hole that takes waste away from your toilet, and your pipes. The plunger head should have a good amount of water under it.

  • Grip the plunger handle with both hands, and push down forcefully. Continually doing this, pushing the plunger down hard and allowing it to come back up. Repeat this process 6-7 times, or until all of the water from the toilet bowl empties.

  • Now, it is time to flush the toilet. If you flush the toilet and the water goes down normally, you are in the clear. However, if you flush the toilet and it begins to overflow, reach into the tank and shut the water off. This will stop the toilet from refilling and overflowing.

If this does not work, you may want to contact a professional. This may be a sign that there is a much larger problem at hand, and it is better to get the issue fixed as soon as possible then sit and wait, allowing it to cause further damage to your plumbing system.

4 Ways to Unclog a Toilet Without a Plunger

  1. Hot water: Pour hot water into the bowl to help break up clogs.

  2. Wire hanger: Straighten it out and use it to push through or pull out whatever obstructs the toilet.

  3. Dish soap: Pour a cup into the bowl and let it sit for a few hours, then follow up with more hot water.

  4. Vinegar and baking soda: Mix a cup of vinegar and baking soda, then pour it down the drain. Let it sit for an hour before flushing it with hot water.

If none of these methods work, it may be time to call a professional. Contact Rescue Air & Plumbing to get the job done quickly and efficiently. Give us a call today!

Using a Closet Auger to Unclog a Toilet

Using a closet auger to unclog toilet is also an easy project. Again this is something that you can try to do at home to save some money. But, if you can’t get it, please call us.

Knowing When to Call a Professional

When your toilet gets clogged, do not reach for the phone just yet. The best thing to do to save both money and time is to try to plunge and unclog your toilet yourself, using the methods above. However, if this does not work, you may want to call a professional plumber. Oftentimes this may signify that there is a larger problem why your toilet is clogged, so it is better to be safe than sorry.

Customer Reviews

Don't Just Take Our Word for It
"Thank you Joe for your honesty and professionalism."
I had another company come out to check on my ac unit that was not working and the service guy said my compressor was gone and it needed to be replaced or get an entirely new system. Joe came out to quote on a new system, but did his due diligence first and discovered a simple faulty wire chewed by a rat. He didn’t take the other guys word for it or try to sell me a whole new unit right off the bat. My unit is old and will need to be replaced before too long and I’m pretty sure this is the company that has earned that business. Thank you Joe for your honesty and professionalism.
