Have you started to get a sneaking suspicion that your house has its own little holiday surprise for you?
It's true, slab leaks are not a joking matter, but with a quick response and professional intervention, you can save your holiday celebrations.
Signs of a Slab Leak
While we encourage you to read our full article on slab leaks here, there are a few of the signs we mentioned in that blog:
- A rise in your water bill
- Wet/warm floors
- Visible mold or strange odors
- Low water pressure
- Standing water near your foundation
If these signs have confirmed your suspicions, here is the course of action we recommend:
1. Check the Water Lines and Sewer Lines
These are the two most likely sources for a slab leak. If you want to do this yourself, check our video on determining if you have a plumbing slab leak for step-by-step instructions. If you don't have the time, you can hire a plumber with the correct expertise to do it for you!
2. If It's the Water Line...
Once you've checked the water pressure and jotted it down with the time of day, it's time to isolate the leak. Check out this video to find out how to isolate the leaks like a plumbing pro!
3. If It's the Sewer Line...
If you're pretty sure the leak is coming from your sewer line, you'll need to run a camera through the lines and do an isolation test. For more information on how to do this, check out our youtube channel and search for sewer line slab leaks, or watch this video.
4. If You Still Can't Find the Leak...
If you've taken the time and borrowed the equipment to do all of these tests yourself, pat yourself on the back!
It's possible you haven't found a clear indication of where the leak is coming from, even after all of your hard work. If that's the case, it's probably time to call in professionals.
